Manchester City<\/a> have announced that Angelino<\/a> is going on loan to RB Leipzig.<\/a>\u00a0 The Spaniard has not had a particularly bad season and was getting playing time in City’s left-back rotation, but he apparently believes he will get more playing time in the Bundesliga.<\/p>\n

Angelino Moves to RB Leipzig<\/h2>\n

After a summer move from PSV for \u20ac12 million, Angelino seemed like part of the plan. At the very least, he was going to be cover for the often injured Benjamin Mendy<\/a> and he has been used sparingly in his six months in Manchester.\u00a0 He has made 12 appearances, including ten starts, this season.<\/p>\n

Those ten starts, though make him the third choice left-back.\u00a0 Mendy has made 18 appearances and Oleksandr Zinchenko<\/a> has appeared in 15 games.\u00a0 Now that both are healthy, it’s likely that Angelino would play even less going forward.<\/p>\n

So, a move to Leipzig will make a lot of sense.\u00a0 It is a loan move with an option to buy in the summer for \u20ac30 million.\u00a0 It’s a real chance for Angelino to get solid playing time while competing for the Bundesliga title.\u00a0 Leipzig are currently one point ahead of Bayern Munich<\/a> in the standings with a host of chasers behind them.<\/p>\n

Greasing the Wheels<\/h3>\n

Manchester City’s objective in completing this transfer seems to be more about future opportunities than Angelino.\u00a0 It’s no secret that Leipzig have one of the most talented young rosters in Europe.\u00a0 Manchester City are looking to create a solid relationship with a club that will hopefully lead to future transfer options.<\/p>\n

Who would those options be?\u00a0 Sam Lee of The Athletic<\/a> has already speculated that it could be players like Dayot Upamecano<\/a> and Timo Werner<\/a>.\u00a0 Both would make sense for Manchester City’s future plans, and Upamecano has been considered likely to move in the summer of 2020.<\/p>\n
