Sunderland<\/a> has added to their squad with the signing of Declan John from Swansea City<\/a>. Black Cats boss Phil Parkinson<\/a> had been keen to bring in a left-back due to having just Denver Hume available to him in that position. Today, Parkinson got his wish by signing the former Rangers player.<\/p>\n

Sunderland Sign Declan John From Swansea<\/h2>\n

Struggling for Minutes<\/h3>\n

Versatile left-back John has struggled for game time this season making, just five appearances. John signed for Swansea in 2018 from Rangers<\/a> for \u00a3800,000. However, he played just 13 times under the then Swans boss Graham Potter<\/a>. With Kyle Naughton and Jake Bidwell in front of him for a first-team place, the Welshman has found his way into the team blocked further.<\/p>\n

Parkinson Was Keen to Bring in the Attacking Defender<\/h3>\n

Manager Phil Parkinson made little secret of his desire to add a left-back to his squad. Earlier this week, the Sunderland<\/a> manager admitted to the Sunderland Echo<\/a> that John was a player he had enquired about: \u201cDeclan John is someone we have enquired about. He’s similar to Denver in terms of his pace and being a real outlet on that side.”<\/p>\n

Swansea manager Steve Coopper admitted that he was aware of a possible deal and that it “might happen”<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Parkinson Gets His Man on Deadline Day<\/h3>\n

After several days of rumours regarding this deal, Phil Parkinson got his man. John has signed for the Black Cats on loan until the end of the season.<\/p>\n

On completing the signing of the Welsh left-back, Parkinson said<\/a>:<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m pleased to welcome Declan to the club. He\u2019s another good addition to the squad and provides added depth in an area of the pitch we have been working to strengthen.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnfortunately he\u2019s unavailable this weekend, but we look forward to him joining the squad next week.\u201d<\/p>\n

Player History<\/h3>\n

Wales international Declan John began his career at Cardiff City<\/a>, playing 52 games in all competitions. Spells on loan at Barnsley, Chesterfield and Rangers resulted in a permanent move north of the border. He played 31 times for Rangers after his permanent move before joining Swansea City for a fee believed to be \u00a3800,000.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
