Cardiff City<\/a> have made their first January signing. The Bluebirds have signed defender Brad Smith on loan from Bournemouth<\/a> for the rest of the season. He is Neil Harris\u2019 first addition since replacing Neil Warnock.<\/p>\n

The Deal<\/h3>\n

Cardiff announced via their website<\/a> they had signed the left-back. Smith arrives on loan for the remainder of the season determined to keep Cardiff in the promotion race.<\/p>\n

The Australian international began his career at Liverpool<\/a> before joining the Cherries in 2016. He has struggled for game time at Bournemouth since arriving at the club.<\/p>\n

Smith has spent the last 18 months in the USA, playing for current MLS Cup holders Seattle Sounders. He enjoyed a tremendous spell in the United States, and he will hope to bring that confidence with him to Cardiff.<\/p>\n

The full-back has yet to show his best in English football and a move to Cardiff provides him with a good opportunity. He will compete with Cardiff\u2019s current number one left-back Joe Bennett.<\/p>\n

The full-back is Neil Harris\u2019 first signing of the window as he looks to assert himself on the squad. He wants to add more fresh faces before tomorrow\u2019s deadline.<\/p>\n

Smith could make his Cardiff debut in tomorrow night\u2019s game against Reading after the defender was signed in time to feature.<\/p>\n

Smith Wants to Prove Himself in English Football<\/h3>\n

The full-back has struggled to show his best abilities in English football making a handful of appearances for Liverpool and Bournemouth.<\/p>\n

While a lack of game time was against him, we didn\u2019t see the best of him. However, 18 months in MLS has certainly given him a huge boost and allowed him to grow as a footballer.<\/p>\n

Cardiff will hope to get the best out of him in the final months of the season.<\/p>\n
