League One strugglers AFC Wimbledon<\/a> have signed goalkeeper Joe Day on loan from Cardiff City<\/a> for the rest of the season. The keeper arrives as Wimbledon\u2019s second January signing.<\/p>\n

AFC Wimbledon Sign Joe Day on Loan from Cardiff<\/h2>\n

The Deal<\/h3>\n

AFC Wimbledon announced on their website<\/a> they had signed the keeper. Day arrives on loan for the remainder of the season and provides competition for fellow loanee Nathan Trott.<\/p>\n

Day arrives as Wimbledon\u2019s second January signing after Mads Sorensen joined earlier in the window. The keeper is vastly experienced having played for Newport County<\/a> and Cardiff City.<\/p>\n

The keeper arrives looking to help Wimbledon ensure their safety in League One and get some game time after struggling at Cardiff.<\/p>\n

The 29-year-old made over 200 appearances for Newport County which included cup ties against Leicester City<\/a> and Manchester City<\/a> as well as a play-off final appearance last season.<\/p>\n

The keeper certainly provides excellent competition for West Ham United<\/a> youngster Nathan Trott. Day has struggled for game time at Cardiff with several keepers ahead of him in the pecking order.<\/p>\n

Day is eligible to face Burton Albion this evening after receiving clearance to play. He will hope to make his debut with Glyn Hodges delighted to have him on board.<\/p>\n

What Was Said<\/h3>\n

Speaking to the Wimbledon website about his new signing, manager Glyn Hodges said, \u201cJoe is an experienced goalkeeper, who has played over 200 games for Newport.\u201d<\/p>\n

“He moved from Newport to Cardiff and has been around the first-team squad, so we are lucky to get him.<\/p>\n

“At one stage it looked like he wasn\u2019t coming, that\u2019s why these things take time, but he has signed for us and we are looking forward to having his experience during the business end of the season.”<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cJoe has got size, he has got presence and experience. I know it\u2019s great putting the young lads in and having a young side, but you still need to have a sprinkling of a bit more nous, a bit more know-how.<\/p>\n

“I am sure he will bring that. If you look at the spine of the team it has been quite young, but straight away this strengthens it in that position.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s a fit for us, and we all need help. He\u2019s there to give the boys help and it\u2019s just about getting that bond between the defenders and the goalkeeper so that we become tight.<\/p>\n

“We\u2019ve not kept as many clean sheets as I would have liked. We got one in the last game and that was terrific as it was against a prolific Peterborough front-line, so we just need to get a few more in terms of moving forward.\u201d<\/p>\n
