Searching throughout the winter transfer window, Southampton<\/a> have been a club on the lookout for new and fresh talent. Sitting ninth in the English Premier League<\/a> table, the Saints’ biggest priority has been to sign at least one new full-back. Linked to a number of players recently, recent reports have now revealed Southampton’s interest in Nottingham Forest right-back Matty Cash<\/a>.<\/p>\n

REPORT: Southampton Linked to Nottingham Forest’s Matty Cash<\/h2>\n

AC Milan and West Ham Also Chasing Right Back<\/h3>\n

According to a report from the Daily Mail’s<\/a> Simon Jones, Southampton have inquired about the transfer status of Matty Cash. The enquiry follows a report<\/a> that West Ham United<\/a> have seen their \u00a312 million offer turned down. Besides the two Premier League clubs, Italian side AC Milan<\/a> has also been recently linked with the Englishman.<\/p>\n

Like Southampton, West Ham have had their share of issues at the right-back position. However, unlike Southampton, West Ham currently sit level on points with 18th placed Bournemouth<\/a>. With relegation a real risk for the London-based club, Southampton may have the upper hand on their Premier League rivals.<\/p>\n

The biggest issue for both clubs, however, could be Nottingham Forest’s asking price for Matty Cash. Currently fourth place in the EFL Championship<\/a> table, Forest are likely to require a substantial fee in order to let their star player depart this late in the transfer window.<\/p>\n

Flexible Cash Worth the Inflated Price<\/h3>\n

Currently valued at \u00a33.5 million by Transfermarkt<\/a>, the report from the Daily Mail places Nottingham Forest’s valuation of their academy graduate at \u00a318 million. The right-back has already made 30 appearances<\/a> this season for Forest and is quite clearly one of the side’s most talented players. The biggest plus, however, comes from Cash’s ability to play multiple positions.<\/p>\n

Making just one appearance<\/a> as a right-back prior to this season, Matty Cash has now played 28 matches at the position this campaign. Prior to this season, Cash was regularly deployed as a right-sided midfielder for Nottingham Forest. In fact, most of Cash’s career has been spent playing in midfield.<\/p>\n

Over his career, Matty Cash has made 103 appearances as a midfielder – a stark contrast to the defensive role the 22-year-old Englishman has had this season. Capable of playing multiple positions across the pitch, he could be an extremely valuable signing for any club. Throw in Southampton’s current depth issues and Cash could become an excellent signing for the club.<\/p>\n
