Sunderland<\/a> have completed the signing of defender Bailey Wright from Bristol City. City\u2019s club captain becomes the Black Cats\u2019 second January signing after striker Kyle Lafferty<\/a>. Australia international Wright has signed on loan deal with the option of a permanent deal in the summer.<\/p>\n

Black Cats Sign Bailey Wright From Bristol City<\/h2>\n

Australian International Wright<\/a>, who has 23 caps for his country, travelled to Wearside on Monday. After passing a medical and agreeing terms, the 27-year-old signed the deal to make him a Sunderland<\/a> player. The club announced the deal via their club website<\/a> this morning.<\/p>\n

Phil Parkinson on his new Signing<\/h3>\n

Soon after the signing of Bailey Wright was confirmed, Phil Parkinson had this to say<\/a>:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are delighted to welcome Bailey to the club. He is an experienced player and he has captained Bristol City. We are looking forward to working with him.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe adds competition at the back, which is something I felt we needed, and he is an excellent character. He will be a valuable addition to the group.\u201d<\/p>\n

Preston and Bristol City Career<\/h3>\n

Australian Wright began his career in England<\/a> at Preston North End<\/a>. Between joining as a youth in 2009 and leaving in 2017, Wright made more than 200 appearances while at Deepdale, scoring eight goals.<\/p>\n

During the 2017 January transfer window, Wright moved to Bristol City for an undisclosed fee. At Ashton Gate, the highly thought of defender became club captain and has played more than 80 games. However, this season, Wright has fallen behind several others for a first-team place.<\/p>\n

Bailey Wright appears to be a leader on and off the pitch who will give 100% in every game. His talent, experience and leadership skills could make him an excellent signing for Sunderland. Here is what his managers have said about him:<\/a><\/p>\n

Bristol City manager Lee Johnson: I think Bailey is a fantastic human first and foremost, a very good football player. He has great Championship experience, he’s tough, an Australian international – an old-fashioned stopper.”<\/p>\n

Former Preston boss Graham Westley: \u201cBailey\u2019s contribution to the team is never less than 100%. He is a decisive defender and he wants to play on the front foot.\u201d<\/p>\n

Australia manager Graham Arnold: \u201cHe\u2019s a leader and a warrior and he\u2019s a player I\u2019m very keen to integrate back into the squad heading towards the next World Cup qualification campaign.”<\/p>\n
