{"id":540528,"date":"2020-01-15T06:38:16","date_gmt":"2020-01-15T11:38:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonfootball.com\/?p=540528"},"modified":"2020-01-15T06:38:16","modified_gmt":"2020-01-15T11:38:16","slug":"west-ham-complete-signing-of-middlesbrough-goalkeeper-darren-randolph","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2020\/01\/15\/west-ham-complete-signing-of-middlesbrough-goalkeeper-darren-randolph\/","title":{"rendered":"West Ham Complete Signing of Middlesbrough Goalkeeper Darren Randolph"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>West Ham United have completed the signing of goalkeeper Darren Randolph from Middlesbrough.<\/p>\n<h2>West Ham Complete Signing of Middlesbrough Goalkeeper Darren Randolph<\/h2>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We are pleased to confirm the return of Republic of Ireland international goalkeeper Darren Randolph to the Club. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/gxp3lJfPM5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/gxp3lJfPM5<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; West Ham United (@WestHam) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WestHam\/status\/1217401039386746883?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">January 15, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h3>West Ham Return<\/h3>\n<p>Randolph&#8217;s return to the London side for an undisclosed fee has been long anticipated with a deal <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonfootball.com\/2020\/01\/06\/report-darren-randolph-returns-to-west-ham\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reportedly being agreed<\/a> at the start of the month.<\/p>\n<p>The Middlesbrough &#8216;keeper first joined the Hammers before the 2015-16 season and rejoins on a three-and-a-half-year deal.<\/p>\n<p>After a two-year spell with Birmingham City, he made 15 appearances in all competitions for the Hammers.<\/p>\n<p>Only six appearances came in the Premier League as Randolph became the second choice behind Adrian.<\/p>\n<p>His fortunes improved in the 2016-17 season, making 24 appearances and keeping five clean sheets.<\/p>\n<h3>Middlesbrough Move<\/h3>\n<p>Randolph switched Upton Park for the Riverside in search of more playing time.<\/p>\n<p>The 32-year-old dropped down a division and has become a fan-favourite in the North-East.<\/p>\n<p>He featured in all 46 games in back-to-back Championship seasons as Boro finished fifth and seventh respectively.<\/p>\n<p>He also kept 36 clean sheets, leading to a spot in the 2018-19 Championship Team of the Season.<\/p>\n<p>Despite starting the season strongly under Jonathan Woodgate, he has since slipped down the pecking order to youngster Aynsley Pears.<\/p>\n<h3>Randolph: Delighted to Be Back<\/h3>\n<p>Speaking to the club website, Randolph <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whufc.com\/news\/articles\/2020\/january\/15-january\/darren-randolph-returns-west-ham-united\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a>: \u201cI\u2019m delighted to be back at West Ham United. I had two great years at the Club previously and still have a lot of friends here, so I had no hesitation in coming back,\u201d he said. \u201cWest Ham is a massive club, with fantastic supporters and an excellent squad of players.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a great challenge for me and I am really looking forward to working with the goalkeepers here and helping the team in any way I can.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d like to thank everyone at Middlesbrough \u2013 the management, staff, players and fans \u2013 for their support. I had a great time there and wish them all the very best for the rest of the season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis opportunity was simply too good to turn down, though.
