Burton Albion<\/a> have made their first January signing. The Brewers have signed Leeds<\/a> defender Conor Shaughnessy on loan for the rest of the season.<\/p>\n

Burton Sign Conor Shaughnessy<\/h2>\n

Burton announced via their website<\/a> they had signed the Leeds defender. Shaughnessy spent the first half of the season at League Two Mansfield making 19 appearances for the Stags<\/p>\n

Shaughnessy arrives on loan for the rest of the season with Burton having the option to buy him at the end of the season.<\/p>\n

What Was Said<\/h3>\n

Speaking to the Burton website about his move, Shaughnessy said \u201cIt\u2019s something that has been in the pipeline for a while, I\u2019m delighted to be here.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI had a good chat with the manager (Nigel Clough) and I\u2019m really looking forward to getting started with him.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI really liked what the manager had to say, and it seems like a really good set-up here, with a good group of players.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been playing a lot in central midfield, in the holding role. I can play centre-half as well. I like to get on the ball and play good football, pass the ball and I can head and tackle as well!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll give everything for the cause.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nigel Clough Delighted To Have Shaughnessy At The Club<\/h3>\n

Manager Nigel Clough is delighted to have the defender on board. He told the Burton website \u201cHe\u2019ll bring versatility – he can play a number of positions. But we’ve not just brought him in purely for cover, he’ll be starting games.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe can play across the back four or in the holding midfield role, so he covers a number of positions. He\u2019s got good experience, playing in the Scottish Premiership for Hearts and had half a season at Mansfield.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe nearly took him in the summer, but he went to Mansfield and played quite a few games, including one quite well against us here (in the Leasing.com Trophy) and we\u2019ve managed to secure him for the rest of the season.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s got a slight hamstring problem at the moment, but he should be fit for Accrington in 10 days\u2019 time.\u201d<\/p>\n
