Everton<\/a> have confirmed that they have signed Carlisle United youngster Jarrad Branthwaite<\/a> on an initial two-and-a-half-year deal.<\/p>\n

Breakthrough Season<\/h3>\n

The 17-year-old made his debut in a 2-0 defeat to Plymouth Argyle earlier this season; since then he has made 11 appearances in total for Chris Beech’s side.<\/p>\n

As a result, he is highly regarded by his former side and impressed despite them being 21st in League Two.<\/p>\n

When speaking to the Carlisle United website<\/a>, Director of football David Holdsworth: “I think everybody knows how highly we rated Jarrad, and that’s exactly why we moved quickly to offer him a new and improved three-year contract before Christmas, just eight months after he’d signed his first-ever professional deal.<\/p>\n

“Ideally this fantastic young man would still be our player, but I think everyone will appreciate and understand that it can become very difficult for the individual when clubs at the highest level – some of the biggest clubs in the country – come calling and showing an interest in your services.<\/p>\n

“It is an excellent deal for Carlisle United in terms of the financial aspects, both now and in the future, and Everton are getting a young man who we think will make a big impact.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Branthwaite spoke to the official Everton website<\/a> on arrival. He said: “The pathway is superb – and that’s what made me want to join Everton.<\/p>\n

“I just can’t wait to get started. Everton is a big club and I’m buzzing to be here.<\/p>\n

“I want to settle in, get to know all the boys and put in some good performances for the Under-23s.”<\/p>\n

It is Everton’s under-23 side who he will play for, however, the youngster has set his goals higher.<\/p>\n

“My long-term goal, 100 per cent, is to play for Everton first team in front of the great crowds at Goodison. That would be my dream.”<\/p>\n
