Manchester United<\/a>\u2019s academy is renowned for producing incredible young talent<\/a>, with the likes of David Beckham<\/a>, Paul Scholes<\/a> and Ryan Giggs<\/a> all coming from the United academy. There are many more recent success stories such as Marcus Rashford<\/a> and Mason Greenwood<\/a>. One player who has not lived up to the buzz which surrounded him<\/a> is Tahith Chong<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Tahith Chong Not Living up to the Hype at Manchester United<\/h2>\n

Excitement Which Surrounded Tahith Chong<\/h3>\n

Tahith Chong\u2019s impressive performances with Manchester United\u2019s youth teams earned him a senior debut<\/a> in the summer of 2018. He played in Manchester United\u2019s 1-1 draw<\/a> with Club America<\/a> in pre-season, coming off the bench at the hour mark. Chong brought energy and quality to the side as they tried to see out a draw with their Mexican opposition. After the match, then United manager Jose Mourinho<\/a> heaped praise<\/a> on the young Dutch winger. This built much excitement over United\u2019s latest young talent. He made his competitive United debut<\/a> in an FA cup<\/a> victory over<\/a> Reading<\/a>, once again coming on as a substitute. He showed flashes of quality, but did not change the game. Still, though, he had United fans talking about him.<\/p>\n

More Senior Appearances<\/h3>\n

Tahith Chong has a total of 11 senior competitive appearances at Manchester United. With this disappointing return, fans are wondering whether he actually has what it takes to become a star. The former Feyenoord<\/a> player has had a chance across every competition United are involved in, even the Champions League<\/a>. He most recently played in United\u2019s FA cup fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers<\/a>, and although there was an occasional skillful piece of play, he once again failed to impress. Mistakes have been a characterizing factor of Tahith Chong\u2019s time in the Manchester United senior team.<\/p>\n

Potential Departure<\/h3>\n

Tahith Chong could make an exit from Old Trafford. His contract expires at the end of the season and he has been offered contracts at other clubs<\/a> such as Juventus<\/a>. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer<\/a> has made it clear that he wants Chong to stay<\/a>, however the Dutchman\u2019s agent has issued a warning<\/a> to United that they would consider offers from other clubs unless the Manchester side offer \u201csuitable terms\u201d. Although it does not seem particularly likely, Chong has not yet agreed on a new deal at United.<\/p>\n

Does Tahith Chong Deserve More of a Chance at Manchester United?<\/h3>\n

Although he has made many mistakes, Tahith Chong is still a promising young player who has shown glimpses of his talent. He may just need more time to acclimatize to senior football, however it is possible that he is not going to turn out to be a star at Manchester United, and he has certainly not lived up to the hype which surrounded him…yet.<\/p>\n
