Aston Villa<\/a> have confirmed that Chelsea<\/a> midfielder Danny Drinkwater<\/a> has moved to Villa Park on a loan deal until the end of the season.<\/p>\n

The signing of Danny Drinkwater hints that Aston Villa are looking for extra reinforcements in midfield.<\/p>\n

Dean Smith is currently without key midfielder John McGinn<\/a>, after the Scotsman sustained an ankle injury in mid-December.<\/p>\n

McGinn had adapted to Premier League life well after promotion from the Championship, registering three goals for the Villans in the first half of the season.<\/p>\n

As a result, Smith is looking for a short-term option as a replacement. The Villa boss currently has just four recognised central midfielders available.<\/p>\n

Unsuccessful Loan Spell at Burnley Not Putting Aston Villa Off<\/h3>\n

Danny Drinkwater has already had one loan spell this season.<\/p>\n

The 29-year-old spent the first six months of the season on loan with the fellow Premier League club Burnley.<\/a> However, it was unsuccessful, with Drinkwater making just two appearances in total.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, his time with the Lancashire side was marred by an incident outside of a nightclub, which resulted him suffering an ankle injury, according to the BBC.<\/a><\/p>\n

Another Chance at Success After Chelsea and Burnley Failures<\/h3>\n

The move to Villa Park offers Drinkwater another chance at success, after being deemed surplus to requirements at Chelsea and a failed loan at Burnley.<\/p>\n

After joining Chelsea in 2017, the 29-year-old has made just 23 appearances at Stamford Bridge. He failed to make a Premier League appearance last season, and is not likely to get into the team under Frank Lampard.<\/p>\n

As a result, another loan spell offers the chance for success once more.<\/p>\n

Villa face Leicester City<\/a> in the Carabao Cuo, before facing Manchester City<\/a> in the Premier League.<\/p>\n
