{"id":539186,"date":"2020-01-01T08:31:36","date_gmt":"2020-01-01T13:31:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonfootball.com\/?p=539186"},"modified":"2020-01-01T08:39:38","modified_gmt":"2020-01-01T13:39:38","slug":"paul-lambert-signs-four-year-ipswich-town-extension-amid-criticism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2020\/01\/01\/paul-lambert-signs-four-year-ipswich-town-extension-amid-criticism\/","title":{"rendered":"Paul Lambert Signs Four-Year Ipswich Town Extension Amid Criticism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ipswich Town boss Paul Lambert has signed a new contract at Portman Road until the summer of 2025.<\/p>\n<h2>Paul Lambert Commits to Ipswich Town Until 2025<\/h2>\n<h3>Four-Year Extension<\/h3>\n<p>Lambert took over the reins at Portman Road in October 2018 and had 18 months remaining on his existing deal; however, the Scotsman has put pen to paper on a bumper new contract.<\/p>\n<p>The announcements comes off the back of a disappointing 5-3 defeat to Lincoln City on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Following the Boxing Day draw with Gillingham, Lambert confusingly suggested his time in Suffolk was in the balance; although no officials at the club had seemingly added evidence to his suggestions.<\/p>\n<p>The former Norwich boss <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eadt.co.uk\/sport\/town-boss-lambert-refuses-to-rule-out-the-sack-or-quitting-1-6441205\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said at the time<\/a>: &#8220;Listen, if they want to go and employ another manager &#8211; nae problem &#8211; I&#8217;ll go. It&#8217;s not a problem for me to go. I&#8217;ll leave tomorrow, I&#8217;ll leave the next day. It&#8217;s not a problem.<\/p>\n<p class=\"HasContent\">&#8220;Ipswich Town is the most important thing. Not me. Ipswich Town is the most important thing. I&#8217;ll go.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In a statement released by the club, owner Marcus Evans <a href=\"https:\/\/www.itfc.co.uk\/news\/2020\/january\/lambert-signs-new-contract-at-ipswich\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a>: &#8220;Football management is a precarious business and I have stated many times the importance of having a long term vision which is executed by a management team who are confident that they will be given time to continually improve the performance and quality of the squad.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The coaching group led by the manager have done a fantastic job in turning a fragile environment &#8211; following last season\u2019s relegation &#8211; into one where we have a mental expectation to win every game.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>Evans: The Coaching Group Have Done a Fantastic Job<\/h3>\n<p>On Lambert&#8217;s impact at Town, Evans added: &#8220;The coaching group led by the manager have done a fantastic job in turning a fragile environment &#8211; following last season\u2019s relegation &#8211; into one where we have a mental expectation to win every game.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He continued: \u201cPaul has developed a strong squad and has been a catalyst in the Club\u2019s re-engagement with fans, including playing a role in helping to bring new supporters to Portman Road.
