Currently sitting at 17 goals in 14 matches, Immobile is leading the way for Serie A’s illustrious Capocannoniere award. Lazio, as a direct result from Immobile’s brilliance, are also in the midst of a very strong campaign.

Fantastic Season So Far for Ciro Immobile

Statistics

Immobile’s 17 goals put him head of Inter’s Romelu Lukaku as Italy’s top scorer by a tally of seven goals. What’s even more impressive, however, is that Immobile has also notched five assists. Lukaku has none.

Other competitors for the Capocannoniere include João Pedro of Cagliari, Lautaro Martínez of Inter as well, and Luis Muriel of Atalanta. None of these players have managed to record an assist besides Martínez, who only has one to his name. It’s safe to say Immobile has been on a completely higher level thus far.

The Italian gunman has seen 1,117 minutes on the pitch, giving him an outstanding ratio of a goal every 66 minutes.

Furthermore, he has taken 43 shots, 27 of which have been on target, meaning a very high rate of 63% of his shots being on target. With the number of goals he has scored, he’s also finding the back of the net in nearly 40% of his shots.

With his impressive amount of assists, Immobile finds himself tied for third in most assists in the league. He only trails Lorenzo Pellegrini of Roma (six) and his own teammate Luis Alberto (nine). He’s ahead of some of the league’s biggest names in Cristiano Ronaldo, Lorenzo Insigne, and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

Impact on Lazio

I Biancocelesti currently sit at third in the Serie A table. The league looks to be a shoot-out between Inter and Juventus for first, with Inter currently leading by a point, but Lazio barely trail Juventus by six points.

Lazio are also the second highest-scoring team in the league. They trail Atalanta, last season’s leading scorer by one goal. With 33 goals to their name so far, Lazio boast not only one of the most fearsome attacks in Italy, but in all of Europe.

Immobile, of course, has had a major impact on this. His 17 goals mean he has scored more than half of the team’s overall goals. Throwing in his assists, Immobile has been directly involved in just over 66% of the team’s goals.

Having teammates like Alberto, Milinkovic-Savic, and Joaquin Correa has been a major factor in Immobile’s personal success, but a simple glance in his game will show that he too has the ability to create for himself.

Immobile has received plenty of criticism in the past for his inability to lead Lazio to a truly successful campaign or lead the line for what was a disappointing Italian national side for years, but he’s been a man on a mission this season. At age 29, Immobile still has plenty left in the tank. At this rate, Lazio should see themselves qualify for next season’s Champions League (or perhaps challenge for a title if Inter or Juventus see some slip-ups) and find himself back in the talk for Italy’s lead striker in next summer’s European Championship.

Main Photo

Embed from Getty Images

Ciro Immobile is off to a spectacular start for Lazio.
