According to Mail Online’s Dominic King, Liverpool’s Anfield Road stand will increase by 7,000 taking Anfield’s overall capacity to 61,000. The plans would see 5,000 added to general capacity and an extra 2,000 seats in hospitality.

The redevelopment of the stand is expected to cost £60 million. James Pearce of The Athletic notes the money will be borrowed to complete the expansion plans. The club would borrow the money using the club’s existing credit facility. This would be the second phase of development at Liverpool with the club moving to their new Kirkby training ground next year. King notes the overall Anfield stand capacity would increase to 16,000.

However, these plans will not go ahead unless they get planning permission and receive community backing. The club will begin consultations with the local community and according to King. Initial discussions have already taken place. This will be the start of several meetings with the club looking to appease the community and get their backing to develop the stand.

Liverpool’s ambitious expansion plans could also see the club open to the changing the name of the Anfield Road stand. King notes the club will be open to discussions about a name change. The club could explore the idea of naming the stand after a player or look at increasing their commercial revenue with a brand name. It is exciting times at the club, and they hope to hear approval early next year. Once the plans are approved, the club will begin work on the stand.

Main Photo

Embed from Getty Images

Liverpool have confirmed full details of the development plans for Anfield.
