Jose Mourinho today held his first press conference as Tottenham Hotspur<\/a> manager, claiming that his new side can lift the Premier League<\/a> title next season. The bold statement comes just two days after the sacking<\/a> of Mauricio Pochettino<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Portuguese was quick to eliminate any kind of title challenge this season, with his new side languishing in 14th and already a hefty 20 points behind league leaders Liverpool<\/a>. Mourinho, however, has remained positive that Spurs will be title contenders in the near future.<\/p>\n

Tottenham ‘Can Win the Premier League Next Season’, According to Jose Mourinho<\/h2>\n

Mourinho’s Title Ambitions<\/h3>\n

Jose Mourinho was quick to express his excitement at the prospect of managing Tottenham and hinted that turning the club’s fortunes around wouldn’t be an issue<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“I wouldn\u2019t say it\u2019s a [big] job [to turn things around]. The club is huge. I know that I have potentially a great job in my hands.<\/p>\n

The potential of the club is huge. The potential of the players is great.”<\/p>\n

The Portuguese then went on to confidently say<\/a>: “We can’t win the Premier League this season. Next season, I’m not saying we will win it, but we can win it.”<\/p>\n

The Current Squad and Potential Transfers<\/h3>\n

Box-office managers usually tend to boast hefty spending<\/a> fees wherever they ply their trade, and Jose Mourinho certainly expresses that, but he has hinted that the cheque book will stay closed for now.<\/p>\n

He said<\/a>: “The best gift are the players who are here. I don\u2019t need new players. I just need to get to know these ones better. I know them well but you never know them well enough until you meet them.<\/p>\n

“I told the players I came here because of them. I tried to buy some for different clubs and some I didn\u2019t even try because you know how difficult it was.”<\/p>\n

The Jose Mourinho Era on Saturday<\/h3>\n

The London Stadium will set the backdrop for Jose Mourinho’s return to Premier League management, as Spurs travel to rivals West Ham United<\/a> for Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off. Mourinho will be hoping to turn around his new side’s wretched away form<\/a>, by looking to secure Tottenham a first away win of the season. The hosts, however, will be looking to spoil Mourinho’s welcome-back party, but do still face managerial uncertainties of their own, with Manuel Pellegrini<\/a>‘s position currently under heavy fire after a series of poor results.<\/p>\n
