Liverpool<\/a> have confirmed that defender Joel Matip<\/a> has signed a new contract at Anfield, committing his long-term future to the club.<\/p>\n

Joel Matip Signs New Liverpool Contract<\/h2>\n

What Was Said<\/h3>\n

“It’s a great feeling to be a longer part of the club.” said Matip after speaking the official Liverpool website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“From outside, you know Liverpool is such a big club – but when you are inside, then you really get a feeling for how big the club is.<\/p>\n

“It’s a massive and big club that I think every player would want to play for.”<\/p>\n

“We have a young and talented team and I think every one of us is hungry. Now we’ve seen how it is to win something and we want to have that feeling again.”<\/p>\n

“It’s an honour to be part of the club. It makes me happy that people think I’ve done a good job and they want to keep me.”<\/p>\n

Manager Jurgen Klopp also spoke to the official Liverpool website<\/a> and expressed his delight at the 28-year-old extending his stay at Anfield. He said: “Joel’s journey at Liverpool is one I love and I am absolutely delighted he has shown commitment to us by signing this new long-term contract.”<\/p>\n

Joel Matip – Liverpool Career So Far<\/h3>\n

Joel Matip moved to Liverpool in the summer of 2016 on a free transfer from Schalke. Since his arrival, he has gone on to make 104 appearances for the Reds.<\/p>\n

The 28-year-old has seen himself become a mainstay at the heart of the Liverpool defence. He has made eight appearances so far this season, completing every minute in all but one of those appearances.<\/p>\n

As a result of his extension, it allows Matip to continue to build on the partnership he has built with fellow central defender Virgil van Dijk<\/a>. The pair have impressed when featuring together so far this season.<\/p>\n
