After their last fixture saw Union Berlin<\/a> claim their first-ever Bundesliga win at the expense of Borussia Dortmund<\/a>,\u00a0Die Eisernen\u00a0<\/em>suffered their second league defeat after losing at home against Werder Bremen.<\/p>\n

Union started life in the top flight of German football with a home defeat against RB Leipzig<\/a>, and their most recent game was the same outcome.<\/p>\n

It was a controversial afternoon which included penalties, VAR decisions and dismissals. But Die Eisernen\u00a0<\/em>came unstuck against a resident Werder side.<\/p>\n

The first of three VAR interventions of the first half confirmed Davy Klaassen<\/a>‘s penalty and the Dutch captain opened the scoring after five minutes.<\/p>\n

Union were given a lifeline after they were awarded a penalty for handball following VAR consultation. Sebastian Andersson<\/a> made it three goals in as many games.<\/p>\n

Rafal Gikiewicz<\/a> kept his side level with a penalty save in the second half but Niklas F\u00fcllkrug headed in the winner on 55 minutes from the resulting corner.<\/p>\n

A tussle in stoppage time saw second yellow cards for Nuri Sahin<\/a> and Neven Subotic<\/a> as the match ended with both sides going down to ten men.<\/p>\n

Four points from four games<\/h3>\n

It’s been a steady start for Union. The opening day defeat was a blow, but a draw at Augsburg<\/a> and a memorable win over Dortmund put the points on the board.<\/p>\n

They travel to Bayer Leverkusen next weekend.\u00a0 This is a side that won their opening two games but lost heavily at Dortmund at the weekend.<\/p>\n

Union fans will be relatively pleased with the start they’ve made in the Bundesliga,\u00a0 particularly after their opening day defeat. But\u00a0Die Eisernen\u00a0<\/em>have some tricky fixtures coming up. Thus, it will be interesting to see if the K\u00f6penick club can put a positive run of results together.<\/p>\n
