The weather was not the only dampener on Frank Lampard’s first afternoon as Chelsea<\/a> manager. He saw his side 4-0 at Manchester United<\/a> in his first game as Chelsea boss.<\/p>\n

Manchester United Beat Chelsea in Frank Lampard’s First Game<\/h2>\n

First Half<\/h3>\n

The first chance of the game came early on when Tammy Abraham<\/a> – making his first start for Chelsea in the Premier League – rattled the post of David de Gea<\/a>‘s goal. The Spaniard was well beaten as the chance went flying past.<\/p>\n

Chelsea dominated the early proceedings, while Manchester United struggled to acclimatise to the game. However, in the 17th minute Kurt Zouma<\/a> – making his return to the Chelsea lineup – brought down Marcus Rashford<\/a> in the penalty area. Following customary VAR checks, the 21-year-old hammered home the resulting penalty.<\/p>\n

David de Gea was called into action once more in the 38th minute, following a cagey 20 minute period following the opener. United were dispossessed in midfield, and Ross Barkley<\/a> found himself one-on-one with the Manchester United ‘keeper. However, he gifted De Gea what was a relatively easy save.<\/p>\n

Chelsea had grown back into the game and threatened once more shortly after. Left-back Emerson<\/a> found himself in the Manchester United box, and saw his shot rebound off of the post.<\/p>\n

Second Half<\/h3>\n

An end-to-end affair began the second half. However, neither side failed to threaten and much of the opening 15 minutes was dominated in the midfield.<\/p>\n

Manchester United doubled their lead in the 65th minute through Anthony Martial<\/a>. The Frenchman was found in the box and nudged home for 2-0.<\/p>\n

A minute later and it was 3-0. A long ball over the top found Marcus Rashford in between the Chelsea defence, and he slotted delicately past Kepa Arrizabalaga<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It ensured that the game was done and dusted by the 70th-minute mark. However, there was still time for United to add a fourth, as substitute and new signing Daniel James<\/a> saw his effort deflect in off of Emerson. A joyful and passionate celebration followed from the Welshman on his debut.<\/p>\n

That was that for the action, as Manchester United eased to victory. They will look to thrive off of this demolition, while Chelsea will have to learn quickly from their mistakes to avoid a repeat of Frank Lampard’s first game.<\/p>\n
