As the transfer window draws to a close, it is time to see which Premier League squads have improved the most so far.

Most Improved Premier League Squads

The Villains Splash Out

There are many teams that will return more powerful than before but one stands above the rest. Surprisingly, it’s not a top-four or top-six team. It’s play-off winners Aston Villa. The Villains only finished fifth in the Championship last season but managed to win the play-off final against Frank Lampard’s Derby County, now managed by Phillip Cocu. Aston Villa are surprisingly the biggest Premier League spenders this summer so far, splashing about £140 million after winning ”the richest game in football.”

Wolves Continue Project

Wolverhampton Wanderers have had a yet another great transfer window. They permanently signed Raul Jimenez and Leander Dendoncker. Wolves also strengthened their squad with the addition of talented striker Patrick Cutrone and signing Real Madrid’s Jesus Vallejo. Nuno Espirito Santo’s ”project” is getting better and it wouldn’t be wrong to consider them as contenders for Europe.

Red Devils Seek Glory Days

There are many rumours surrounding Manchester United’s potential transfer targets. The Red Devils already bought 21-year-old Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James for a combined sum of €72 million, but the United’s business isn’t over yet as they are rumoured to sign Paulo Dybala and Mauro Icardi from Serie A; signings that could finally return the glory days.

Midfielders for City and Spurs

Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur both found what they were searching for – a new defensive midfielder.

Rodri, bought for €68 million from Athletico Madrid, became City’s new record signing. The club also bought back left-back Angelino from PSV, improving their defensive options. City will want to stave off their rivals to attempt to defend the Premier League title for the third season.

Spurs signed 22-year-old Tanguy Ndombele, another City target, from Lyon for £60 million, exciting fans after a few silent transfer windows. By buying the French midfielder, Tottenham also broke their transfer record. The North London side are also reportedly interested in midfielder Giovani Lo Celso from Real Betis. However, they will need to secure these transfers as quickly as possible so that Mauricio Pochettino can mould them into his system. The window’s success will also depend on keeping names like Christian Eriksen at the club whilst the European transfer window remains open.

Arsenal Strengthen

Arsenal are confident after signing Gabriel Martinelli and French defender William Saliba, who will join the Gunners next season. Promising youngster Dani Ceballos will also play for the team on loan, but the biggest transfer is one that has just been announced. Arsenal have signed Nicolas Pepe from Lille and are now targeting Celtic defender Kieran Tierney.

Everton and West Ham Target Europe

Everton and West Ham United fans can also be proud of their clubs’ transfer business during the summer. West Ham signed Sebastien Haller and Pablo Fornals for €68 million combined.

Leicester, meanwhilem added Ayoze Perez and James Justin to the squad and also managed to permanently sign Youri Tielemans from Monaco after an impressive half-season loan.

Both clubs are taking steps in the right direction to bolster their squads in order to push for European qualification.

Main Photo

Embed from Getty Images

Premier League transfers have reached around £1 billion.
