The 45-year-old has been appointed as the new manager of the club. Moore replaces Grant McCann who left earlier this summer for Championship side Hull City. Moore has signed a one-year rolling contract.

Moore was surprisingly sacked by West Bromwich Albion in March. The Baggies were sitting fourth in the Championship at the time and on course for at least a play-off place. He took charge at Albion the previous April and almost produced a miracle in the Premier League.

Darren Moore Returns to Doncaster Rovers

Former Rovers Player

Darren Moore is no stranger to Doncaster. The former defender played 76 times between 1995 and 1997. He moved on to Bradford City for £300,000. It’s an honour for me to be back here as manager.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone again, I’m really looking forward to coming back into the area and settling down and looking forward to the new season.”

Darren Moore Returns to Build on Last Season

Rovers had an impressive season. They claimed a play-off place but were beaten by Charlton Athletic in the semi-finals. Should Moore be able to keep his better players and bring in extra quality, Rovers could challenge for promotion next season.

Rovers chief executive Gavin Baldwin said: “I’m really pleased to have Darren on board, he was a really strong candidate and I am confident he is a really good fit for the club. His values match ours, and I’m sure our supporters join the owners and myself in giving him a warm welcome and wishing him well at the club. Everyone is now focused on having a good season and building towards the opening game against Gillingham.”

Moore will meet his new players and staff today and get to work on preparations on what could be an exciting promotion race in League One.

Former Doncaster Rovers player Darren Moore returns to the club having been appointed as their new manager.
