Oxford United<\/a>\u00a0have signed\u00a0 Chris Cadden<\/a>\u00a0from\u00a0Columbus Crew on a season-long loan deal.\u00a0The 22 year old arrives at the Kassam Stadium follows in the footsteps of his former teammate\u00a0Alex Gorrin<\/a>.<\/p>\n

U’s Finally Sign Chris Cadden<\/h1>\n

Cadden to Add to U’s Game<\/h2>\n

Chris Cadden has followed midfielder Alex Gorrin to Oxford after the U’s agreed to take the playmaker on a season-long loan deal from Columbus Crew.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old had previously made 139 appearances for Scottish Premier League side Motherwell; however, he signed for the Ohio club after his Well contract ended.<\/p>\n

Cadden featured at right-back for Well early on last season; however, he can play both centrally and on the right of midfield.<\/p>\n

In 2017, the U’s had a \u00a3450,000 bid rejected by Motherwell for the then 20-year-old. This time a compensation deal of around \u00a3270,000 has been agreed; it looks like good business for Robinson’s side.<\/p>\n

Karl Robinson on Cadden<\/h2>\n

In June,\u00a0Karl Robinson told the Oxford Mail:<\/a> “We\u2019ve made a bid and it has been accepted. I\u2019ve spoken to the player twice, we\u2019d love to bring him in.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s three other clubs and we\u2019ve just got to wait and see which one he decides to choose and that\u2019s where we\u2019re at right now.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fact is he\u2019s a free transfer, it\u2019s compensation.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve met the compensation laws and we\u2019ve not commented on anything, so this is everybody else speaking about it.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re now just saying \u2018these are the facts\u2019 and that\u2019s it, that\u2019s where we sit and we\u2019re just waiting for an answer.\u201d<\/p>\n

Uncertainty Ahead Of Signing<\/h2>\n

It looked certain that Cadden would join the U’s after Motherwell accepted the U’s compensation fee.<\/p>\n

It was a long, drawn out saga; however, the U’s have finally got their man ahead of the new season.<\/p>\n

Motherwell face missing out on 280,000 euros for Cadden, as MLS sides have not yet been categorised for training fees.<\/p>\n

However, Columbus, US Soccer and the MLS are in discussions with Motherwell in order to seek a resolution.<\/p>\n
