Alex Gorrin<\/a> has become the third Oxford United<\/a> signing this summer, joining from Motherwell<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Spaniard arrives on a two-year deal with an option for a 12 month extension.<\/p>\n

Alex Gorrin Signs For Oxford United<\/h2>\n

First Senior Signing – So Far<\/h3>\n

Following youngsters Kevin Berkoe<\/a> and Sam Allardyce<\/a>, Gorrin becomes the first senior signing of the summer.<\/p>\n

The former Sunderland<\/a> trainee, who had also attracted interest<\/a> from Aberdeen, Lech Poznan<\/a>\u00a0and MLS duo\u00a0Toronto<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Atlanta United.<\/a><\/p>\n

However, the former Wellington Phoenix<\/a> and Sepsi Sf\u00e2ntu Gheorghe<\/a> man decided to head south from Scotland to try his hand in League One.<\/p>\n

The 25-year-old central midfielder has told the Oxford Mail<\/a> that he is excited to start.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m delighted we could get it over the line.\u00a0 I\u2019m a player who likes to tackle and get the ball back and I like to play football as well. I\u2019m really excited.<\/p>\n

“There were a couple of interested clubs, but Oxford were there from the start. They showed a lot of interest and belief.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s a great option for me and I think it\u2019s the perfect place to keep improving \u2013 I\u2019m very excited.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gorrin added<\/a>: \u201cI would like to keep improving as a player. I know League One is a tough division, there is a lot of quality and a lot of big teams, so I\u2019m expecting a tough season.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m mentally ready for it. I did a little bit of research on the club when I heard they were interested and I was very excited.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a great club, they\u2019re doing things right, and they have a new training facility which is outstanding.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Spaniard made 20 appearances for the Well last season and arrives at the Kassam Stadium on a free transfer.<\/p>\n

Karl Robinson on Gorrin<\/h2>\n

Robinson told the Oxford Mail:<\/a>\u00a0“Last season he was fantastic. Alex was the man who did all the dirty work. He\u2019s a tough tackler, he\u2019s aggressive, averages just under 13km a game which is phenomenal.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe ticks a lot of our boxes. He\u2019s a stopper, an enforcer and is a tremendous reader of the game.\u201d<\/p>\n

It is uncertain whether or not Oxford will re-sign Ahmed Kashi<\/a> following his loan spell last season. He appeared in a photo with U’s chairman\u00a0Sunrith Thanakarnjanasuth<\/a> in Thailand, but Gorrin would be a like for like replacement for the Troyes<\/a> midfielder.<\/p>\n

But head coach Karl Robinson said the U\u2019s were still in contact with the Algerian.<\/p>\n

He added<\/a>: \u201cKashi is at a very big club for the level in France and he has got another year left on a good wage.<\/p>\n

“We can only do it as a loan \u2013 a permanent would be extremely difficult with the wage structure that we\u2019re in.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s still not a \u2018no\u2019, we\u2019re still texting. He knows exactly where we are and he knows exactly where he is.”<\/p>\n
