Sky Bet League One promotion rivals Ipswich Town and Portsmouth will fight for Alejandro Gorrin<\/a>‘s signature this summer. The Motherwell midfielder is likely to join one of the third-tier sides according to Football Insider<\/a>.<\/p>\n

League One Interest in Alejandro Gorrin<\/h2>\n

Gorrin’s contract expires at the end of June; however, the Scottish Premiership side are unlikely to offer the Spaniard a new deal.<\/p>\n

The 25-year-old joined Motherwell on a free transfer last summer and is likely to leave without a fee despite impressing in Scotland’s top tier.<\/p>\n

He ended the season with the highest number of interceptions per ninety minutes across Europe<\/a>, achieving an average of 9.75 per game.<\/p>\n

Football Insider claim that the Spaniard is highly sought after on the southern side of Hadrian’s Wall. Gorrin, a former Sunderland<\/a> youngster, is understood to have been tracked by Ipswich and Portsmouth this summer.<\/p>\n

Both sides are looking to bolster their midfield department ahead of a promotion push next season.<\/p>\n

Portsmouth missed out on promotion after losing to Sunderland on aggregate in the play-offs. The Black Cats were eventually beaten 2-1 by Charlton Athletic due to Patrick Bauer<\/a>‘s late goal for the Addicks.<\/p>\n

Contrastingly, Ipswich were relegated to the third tier for the first time in 62 years after a calamitous campaign.<\/p>\n

Town, however, are gifted in midfield with a number of options. Cole Skuse<\/a>, Flynn Downes<\/a>, Teddy Bishop<\/a>, Jon Nolan<\/a>, Tristan Nydam and Andre Dozzell<\/a> are all contracted while\u00a0Emyr Huws<\/a> is battling for fitness following an ongoing knee issue.<\/p>\n

The Spaniard is a globe-trotting journeyman. Prior to his move to Scotland, he featured for\u00a0Sepsi Sf\u00e2ntu Gheorghe in Romania, Boavista in Portugal and Wellington Phoenix, the New Zealand side who play in Australia’s A-League.<\/p>\n

Gorrin made 18 league appearances among 25 matches in all competitions for Motherwell last season.<\/p>\n

The Spaniard is expected to weigh up his options as a free agent and make a decision on his future this month.<\/p>\n
