The defender has found playing chances limited under Pep Guardiola.<\/p>\n<h1>Porto Target Mangala in Summer Swoop<\/h1>\n<h2>Return Move for Mangala<\/h2>\n<p>Mangala could return to his former club Porto after the Portuguese side expressed an interest in the defender.<\/p>\n<p>The defender moved to City from Porto in 2014 but has found playing time limited. The defender has only made four Premier League starts in three seasons since Guardiola took over as manager.<\/p>\n<p>Mangala started his career at Belgium side Standard Liege before signing for Porto in 2011. The France international won two Primeira Liga titles during his three seasons in Portugal before a \u00a332 million move to Manchester City.<\/p>\n<p>O Joga (via<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/sport\/football\/9186254\/man-city-porto-eliaquim-mangala-free-transfer\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> The Sun)<\/a>\u00a0report that Mangala has already held talks and agreed on personal terms with his former side. The defender will be keen to rediscover the form that made him one of Europe&#8217;s top defenders.<\/p>\n<p>Having failed to make an appearance this season Mangala, whose contract expires this month, could leave the Etihad on a free transfer.<\/p>\n<h2>Defensive Concerns<\/h2>\n<p>City will be keen to replace out-going captain <a href=\"https:\/\/fbref.com\/en\/players\/d2bff301\/Vincent-Kompany?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vincent Kompany<\/a>, who is joining Anderlecht as player-manager.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/fbref.com\/en\/players\/0d267745\/Nicolas-Otamendi?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nicolas Otamendi<\/a> is also considering his options ahead of an uncertain future at the Etihad. It would leave City with only two recognised central defenders if the Argentine chose to leave.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/fbref.com\/en\/players\/5eecec3d\/John-Stones?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">John Stones<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/fbref.com\/en\/players\/119b9a8e\/Aymeric-Laporte?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Aymeric Laporte<\/a> are likely to be called upon more often next season; however, Sky Sports News claim that City are only looking to bring in one replacement central defender this summer.<\/p>\n<p>Guardiola is reportedly unopposed to letting <a href=\"https:\/\/fbref.com\/en\/players\/\/?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fernandinho<\/a> take a more defensive role; the midfielder has impressed when in a central holding position.
