Oxford United<\/a> right back, Tony McMahon<\/a>, will be among those leaving the club<\/a> in the summer. Despite having 12 months left on his contract, the 33-year-old will likely end up with a move back north.<\/p>\n

Full-Back to Leave Oxford United<\/h1>\n

This Season at Oxford<\/h2>\n

McMahon<\/a> arrived at the Kassam with his experience being a key factor. But the move was delayed by the death of his father earlier in the summer, whilst distance from his young family was also a strain.<\/p>\n

The full-back started just ten league games for Karl Robinson<\/a>, before being loaned out to Scunthorpe United<\/a> in January.<\/p>\n

A permanent move to the Iron could have been an option, but the club suffered relegation to League Two and will need to keep a closer eye on their wage bill next term.<\/p>\n

Robinson told the Oxford Mail<\/a>: \u201cWe think it\u2019s going to be best for him to stay up north. I think it\u2019s what he prefers for his family as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously with Scunthorpe<\/a> going down, it\u2019s going to make it an awful lot more difficult to do that.”<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019d imagine their wage bill would decrease. We\u2019ll have those conversations over the next few weeks.”<\/p>\n

\u201cBut Tony will have a decision to make in the summer. I don\u2019t foresee him coming here and playing here.\u201d<\/p>\n

Where Next for McMahon?<\/h2>\n

When looking back at the signing of McMahon, Robinson admitted, “It just didn’t work out.”<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have to make sure you deal with it immediately, rather than making what could have been a bad signing and make it into a good signing.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think that would have worked, so we admitted the mistakes we made, but no-one could have foreseen what occurred with Tony\u2019s private life.\u201d<\/p>\n

The loan move to Glandford Park allowed the full back more game time. Reunited with former Bradford City<\/a> boss, Stuart McCall<\/a>, McMahon seemed settled.<\/p>\n

But despite a strong start, injuries<\/a> and the sacking of the manager hindered any progression.<\/p>\n

Relegated on the final day and with the arrival of Paul Hurst as the clubs new manager, it is unknown whether McMahon will stay with the North Lincolnshire side.<\/p>\n

As for the U’s, they’d be looking to find a club to avoid any news for a settlement being paid.<\/p>\n
