MK Dons have completed the signing of former Norwich City<\/a> and Scotland international Russell Martin on a free transfer. Martin joins the League Two side having left Walsall for family reasons after making 12 appearances for them in League One.<\/p>\n

His Past<\/h2>\n

Martin’s Football League career began back in 2004 with Wycombe Wanderers, where he remained for four years, making 116 appearances and scoring five goals. After this, he moved onto Peterborough United, scoring one goal in 56 appearances.<\/p>\n

In the 2009\/10 season, he spent time on loan at Norwich and at the end of that campaign, he made a permanent move to the Canaries.<\/p>\n

Norwich is where Martin is best known after helping them to promotion from the Championship into the Premier League, as well as sustaining their Premier League status for a number of years.<\/p>\n

Martin remained at Norwich until 2018, bar a short loan spell at Rangers, and made a combined total of 284 appearances for the club, scoring six times.<\/p>\n

He left the club in 2018 at 22nd on their all-time appearance holder’s list to sign for League One side Walsall but left the club after just 12 outings.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the club’s website, Martin said of the move<\/a>:\u00a0\u201cI\u2019m delighted to be here. I\u2019m looking forward to being part of the team and part of the project that the manager is building as well as, of course, helping the Club get back to where it belongs.<\/p>\n

\u201cI spoke to the manager a few times and I loved what I heard. We\u2019ve got a good squad here and hopefully, I can come here and add a bit of value.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been very fortunate to have enjoyed success during my career and I want more. Hopefully, I can play my part in bringing that to the Club.\u201d<\/p>\n

MK Dons manager Paul Tisdale said:\u00a0\u201cWe\u2019re adding to our strength. We don\u2019t want to have another December like we just had when we lost a couple of defenders, so I felt it was a\u00a0necessity to bolster that area.<\/p>\n

\u201cA player of Russell\u2019s ilk adds value and compliments the young and progressive players that we have.\u00a0What\u2019s more, I think he\u2019ll fit in very well with our culture.\u201d<\/p>\n
