After a difficult start to the Bundesliga<\/a> season, Bayern Munich<\/a> are reportedly set to strengthen their squad this winter. World Cup winner Lucas\u00a0Hern\u00e1ndez<\/strong><\/a> is rumoured to be joining the club, with Bayern set to trigger the Frenchman’s\u00a0\u20ac80 million release clause.\u00a0Hern\u00e1ndez\u00a0will\u00a0join the reigning Bundesliga champions on January 1st.<\/p>\n

Bayern Munich Set to Sign Lucas Hern\u00e1ndez<\/h1>\n

Youth and Versatility<\/h2>\n

At just 22, Lucas\u00a0Hern\u00e1ndez has already established himself as a star for club and country. Capable of playing both centre-back and left-back,\u00a0Hern\u00e1ndez starred for France as Les Bleus won the World Cup last summer. Leaving a European heavyweight for a European giant,\u00a0Hern\u00e1ndez is set to play a key role at Bayern. Providing youth and versatility,\u00a0Hern\u00e1ndez should fit in well with his new Bayern teammates. Along with\u00a0Niklas S\u00fcle<\/strong><\/a>, Joshua Kimmich<\/a><\/strong> and David Alaba<\/strong><\/a>, Bayern have three members of their future back four already within their ranks.<\/p>\n

If rumours are true, the club is also closing in on signing fellow World Cup winner Benjamin Pavard<\/a><\/strong>; another young, versatile player rumoured to be making the move to the German giants. As the squad ages, Bayern will attempt to get younger in the transfer market. Signing players like\u00a0Hern\u00e1ndez and potentially Pavard are the first steps towards the old Bayern becoming the new Bayern.<\/p>\n

A Big Loss for Atletico<\/h2>\n

A young, versatile, World Cup winner,\u00a0Hern\u00e1ndez isn’t the type of player any team would want to lose. A move nobody saw coming, this is a great bit of business by Bayern. However, the loss of\u00a0Hern\u00e1ndez puts his former club in a tricky situation. Replacing a player as young and as talented as\u00a0Hern\u00e1ndez isn’t easy. Fellow defenders Diego Godin, Jose Gimenez and Felipe Luis are all rumoured to be leaving the club next summer. Atletico would do well to avoid a domino effect, after losing\u00a0Hern\u00e1ndez to a European rival.<\/p>\n

Bayern’s Recovery Continues<\/h2>\n

Currently third in the table, Bayern will look to take full advantage of the winter break. Securing\u00a0Hern\u00e1ndez’s signature is a great start but the main focus during the break should be health. A squad plagued by injuries to begin the season, Bayern will use January to reintroduce those who have been out injured. The club is expecting Arjen Robben<\/strong><\/a>, James Rodriguez<\/a><\/strong> and Serge Gnabry<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0back at some point after the new year. Once these players return, Bayern will be at full strength.<\/p>\n
