Glenn Murray<\/a> has extended his contract with Brighton & Hove Albion<\/a>, keeping him at the South Coast club until the end of the 2019\/20 season. Murray was a vital part of Brighton’s Premier League survival last season and so far in this campaign, he has continued his excellent form.<\/p>\n

Reward For Hard Work<\/h2>\n

Murray has worked his way up the football ladder, similar to the well-documented rise of Jamie Vardy<\/a>, playing for teams such as Workington Reds and Barrow in his native Cumbria. He has also had stints in the Football League with Rochdale, Stockport and Carlisle.<\/p>\n

Murray joined Brighton for the first time in 2008, staying for three years and making 118 appearances. He managed 54 goals in this time before making the move to their rivals, Crystal Palace<\/a>.<\/p>\n

After a successful loan spell at Reading, he moved back to the South Coast, this time joining Bournemouth<\/a>\u00a0for their first season in the Premier League. This turned out to be one of the few unsuccessful stints in his career, and he moved back to the Championship on loan, re-joining Brighton.<\/p>\n

This loan earned him a permanent move to the Seagulls as they were promoted to the Premier League for the first time and he has remained as one of their most important players.<\/p>\n

Currently, Murray has six goals this season, just two behind Sergio Aguero<\/a>, who leads the charts for goals in the Premier League. Also on six are Raheem Sterling<\/a>, Callum Wilson<\/a>, Mohamed Salah<\/a>, Harry Kane<\/a>, Anthony Martial<\/a>, Sadio Mane<\/a> and Richarlison, meaning he is the top scorer for teams in the bottom half of the table.<\/p>\n

The Man to Keep Brighton Safe<\/h2>\n

Murray seems to be Brighton’s only regular goalscorer, particularly as their next top scorers are centre-back pairing Lewis Dunk<\/a> and Shane Duffy<\/a>, who both have two. Perhaps this is something that the Seagulls need to address in January as it could become tough to rely on defenders and a 35-year-old striker, but for now, Murray looks as though he could almost single-handedly steer Brighton to safety (with relative ease, it should be added) this season.<\/p>\n
