Moyes has stated several times that reinforcements are required; however, it appears, if he wants players, he will have to sell first. Sunderland do have several saleable assets that would allow Moyes to wheel and deal though. However, one name that many will not want to see leave is one of their own, goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Sunderland Must Resist Any Temptation to Sell Jordan Pickford

The 22 year old came to the attention of many fans last season whilst on loan at Preston North End. His form there, for a side struggling at the wrong end of the table was excellent. He was also cementing his place as the England Under 21’s first choice. A mistake at Southampton denied the team three points, but instead of letting it affect him, he has gone from strength to strength. He has also been included in Gareth Southgate’s last two England squads. Reports are gathering pace that some of the top clubs in the country are keeping a close eye on his progress.

His form has helped Sunderland rise from the bottom of the table and keep them in the mix to avoid the dreaded drop from the Premier League. His name can now be heard being chanted regularly both at home and away.

Long term No1 and future international

In Pickford they have a keeper who could be theirs and England’s number one for many years to come. If sold, at least £18 million could be received. Whabi Khazri, another signed in January this year and who played a big part in keeping the club up last season has not featured as much as expected under Moyes. Few may be surprised if Moyes agreed to sell should a sensible offer be received. Obviously, Moyes would like to keep these players along with others. His hands look to be tied with regards to funds, he may feel then he must sell to buy to keep the Black Cats in the Premier League.

Main Photo

Embed from Getty Images

England U21 international and current Sunderland number one Jordan Pickford is currently in superb form.
