France and Spurs<\/a> captain Hugo Lloris has expressed his regret following his arrest for drinking and driving. Mortified Lloris released a statement earlier to the media.<\/p>\n

‘It is Not the Example I Wish to Set.’<\/h1>\n

\u201cI wish to apologise wholeheartedly to my family, the club, my team-mates, the manager and all of the supporters. Drink driving is unacceptable, I take full responsibility for my actions and it is not the example I wish to set.\u201d<\/p>\n

There has been no statement from the club as yet. 31-year-old goalkeeper Lloris will be anxiously waiting to see if his captaincy is in jeopardy. With the severity of the charge, he is facing the possibility of losing the armband and receiving a hefty fine. A custodial sentence is possible but unlikely.<\/p>\n

Lloris will be devastated. Not only is he\u00a0the captain, but is also one of the club\u2019s talismanic players with 295 appearances in goal since his move from Lyon in 2012. He has been exemplary as a player and captain, popular and vital. Manager Mauricio Pochettino will not be happy, with his side facing an important away match with Manchester United on Monday night.<\/a><\/p>\n

After the elation of his World Cup win, it has been a shock and disappointment for fans and club. None will be more disappointed, however, than the man himself. He could also lose the Captaincy of his national side.<\/p>\n

Will Hugo Still be Boss?<\/h2>\n

World Cup-winning Lloris was breathalysed and charged following a routine patrol stop in Gloucester Park, Marylebone, London.<\/p>\n

The Frenchman was charged and released on bail and will be appearing at Westminster Magistrates Court on September 11th. As a public figure and role model for youngsters, it\u2019s likely his penalty will be harsh. It is not known how far over the legal limit the keeper was.<\/p>\n

Fans are furiously debating whether he should remain captain. However, the majority are fretting that he could be absent from the Manchester United<\/a> clash. If he does appear, there is the worry that the stress and media frenzy will affect his performance.<\/p>\n

Only Jos\u00e9 Mourinho and United fans will be reading the news with optimism. They will be relishing the idea of Spurs\u2019 second goalkeeper Michael Vorm making the trip to Old Trafford.<\/p>\n
