Arguably Liverpool\u2019s greatest player, Gerrard has decided to call time on his <\/span><b>LA Galaxy<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> career<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The Reds&#8217; longest-serving captain\u00a0is now pondering his next steps in football. As a result of this announcement, some fans are buzzing at the prospect of their former skipper returning to Anfield. Scepticism as to what role he would play currently is also rife.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Possibilities<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gerrard has gone on record as saying <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/sport\/football\/article-3938766\/Steven-Gerrard-says-time-consider-stage-career-confirms-LA-Galaxy-exit.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">that retirement is not a foregone conclusion<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This statement by the 36-year-old has alerted clubs to the possibility of a short term playing deal. <\/span><b>Brendan Rodgers&#8217;<\/b> <b>Celtic<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are rumoured to be interested, as are <\/span><b>Newcastle United <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with his other old boss <\/span><b>Rafael Benitez <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">at the helm<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Recent reports suggest that Gerrard has been in contact with\u00a0<strong>Milton Keynes Dons<\/strong> over the vacant manager&#8217;s position at the club. The Dons lie 21st in <strong>League One<\/strong> at the moment, so there is risk of a relegation which would badly hurt his future career prospects. Gerrard is currently working for his UEFA &#8220;A&#8221; coaching licence, showing that he wants to continue in the game, but now he has a tough choice as to whether he wants to be thrown into the deep end.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sentimentality<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><b>J\u00fcrgen Klopp <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">understands Gerrard&#8217;s standing in Liverpool\u2019s history. The German was quite comfortable having the former skipper train with his team last winter. Could a similar arrangement be on the cards? Would Klopp take a chance on registering Gerrard for the second half of the season, as a solid mentor and possible playing option if needed? <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of course Gerrard presently could not last the 90 minutes of counter-pressing that the current Liverpool team is renowned for. Injuries, suspensions and overseas absentees may force Liverpool into changes. All things considered, Gerrard could be a very potent option off the bench and on the coaching staff. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bayern Munich Model<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><b>Bayern Munich <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">have championed including former greats heavily in team affairs. This model has aided the club in building hegemony in the <\/span><b>Bundesliga<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Legends such as <\/span><b>Karl- Heinz Rummenigge<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Franz Beckenbauer<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Ulrich Hoene\u00df <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>J\u00fcrgen Klinsmann <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">have influenced the club both as players and later as coaches and staff. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Liverpool, in their dominant era, had a similar tradition of former players going into the famous \u201cBoot Room\u201d to influence team affairs after they stopped playing.
