For the first time in a World Cup, the Mexico national team defeat Germany. The current world champions were defeated by a first-half strike from PSV’s Hirving Lozano.<\/p>\n
Mexico made history today at the Luzhniki Stadium earlier this evening as they beat current World Cup holders Germany by 1-0. The European side is considered one of the best squads at the World Cup, but Juan Carlos Osorio’s players didn’t\u00a0seem to care about it and played even better than the actual world champions.<\/p>\n
The game started with great intensity, with both teams attacking strongly one at a time. From the first minute, it was clear that Mexico wouldn’t fear the German squad.<\/p>\n
The Europeans seemed to understand each other better than the Americans.\u00a0Joachim L\u00f6w did a very good job on Germany’s preparation for the World Cup. But, Mexico found the weak side of their opponent.<\/p>\n
Germany’s right-hand side of defence didn’t work at all during the first half, and Osorio’s team took advantage of it to play on the counter attacks.<\/p>\n
By the 20th minute of the match, each team had had four chances to score. But both goalkeepers made good saves,\u00a0leaving the score at 0-0.<\/p>\n
The clock marked 34 minutes when Mexico’s strategy worked. In a counter attack down Germany’s right, Chicharito aproached Manuel Neuer’s area and passed to Hirving Lozano. The midfilder did a great job with his finish and scored the first goal of the match.<\/p>\n
Both teams came back even stronger for the last 45 minutes of the match. Mexico continued to play on the counter-attack.<\/p>\n
Willing to increase Mexico’s defensive capacity, Osorio took out the captain Andres Guardado to put another defender, Rafa M\u00e1rquez. It’s the fifth World Cup of the ex-Barcelona<\/a> player, and his experience definitely helped Mexico to manage the victory.<\/p>\n Despite Germany’s preasure, Mexico stayed solid and confident during the second half and got the three points on the first match of Group F.<\/p>\n Germany will face off Sweden on June 23 at Fisht Olympic Stadium, Sochi.
