League Two newcomers MK Dons have been drawn against Charlton Athletic in the first round of this year’s Carabao Cup. Paul Tisdale’s side will look forward to hosting a team they feel they could have a good chance against.<\/p>\n
The Dons are no strangers to first-round success in this competition. The last time they lost an opening-round game was in the 2009\/10 season when they lost 4-1 at home to Swindon Town. Their largest margin of victory came two years later when they won by the same scoreline away at Cheltenham Town.<\/p>\n
Tisdale’s side’s best run in the competition came in the 2014\/15 season. After beating arch-rivals AFC Wimbledon in the first round, the Dons were drawn against the mighty Manchester United<\/a> in round two. However, braces from Will Grigg and Benik Afobe gave the Dons an improbable 4-0 victory over Louis van Gaal’s team.<\/p>\n They were 2-0 victors over Bradford City in the next round before succumbing to Sheffield United in the fourth round, who would go on to narrowly lose to Tottenham<\/a> in the semi-final.<\/p>\n The Dons will host League One side Charlton\u00a0Athletic in the first round of this year’s competition. The Addicks are currently managed by Lee Bowyer, who is in caretaker charge following the departure of Karl Robinson, who also spent six years in charge at Stadium MK.<\/p>\n This will be the ninth meeting between the two sides since 2015. The Dons have the slight upper hand with three wins compared to Charlton’s two, with three draws also being played out.<\/p>\n Charlton’s side includes former Dons midfielders Ben Reeves and Jake Forster-Caskey, who were taken to the club by Robinson.<\/p>\n Charlton were victorious over Paul Tisdale at this stage of the competition last year when they won 2-1 at St James’ Park over Exeter City.
