Newcastle United Confirm Eddie Howe Appointment

Eddie Howe

Newcastle United have officially confirmed the appointment of former Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe. The news comes after their pursuit of Villarreal manager Unai Emery ended in failure. In a relegation battle, and without a win all season, the Magpies need Howe to get off to a good start.

The new owners, led by the Saudi Arabia Investment Fund, will be well aware just how important avoiding relegation is. And that makes Howe an ideal appointment. Whilst at Bournemouth, Howe avoided relegation from 2015 to 2020. Add into that the fact that he instilled an attractive style of football whilst assuring survival, and Newcastle have got themselves the perfect candidate.

After the job he did at Bournemouth, Howe won many admirers in English football, marking it a surprise just how long he was left without a job. It seems as though the Englishman was simply just waiting for the right project – hence why he’s taken the position at St James’ Park.

At Newcastle, Howe has the opportunity to show both his skills at guiding clubs out of difficult situations, and just how high he can take a club when receiving the backing only comparable to that of the best clubs in the world. With the millions and millions behind him, Howe has the opportunity to cement himself into the  chapter of Newcastle’s latest book of history.

Immediately, he will look to imprint his style of play on the Newcastle. With that style in mind, the hope is that an instant turnaround is had. If the Magpies stay up, the focus will be on taking further strides forward. With a summer transfer window under their belts, they may well find themselves looking like a different side. Together with Howe, the Magpies can make strides up the table.
