Roma Complete Rui Patricio Deal

Rui Patricio

Jose Mourinho has completed his latest signing as Roma manager with Rui Patricio set to complete his medical before being unveiled by the club, according to Fabrizio Romano. The Wolves goalkeeper enjoyed an impressive spell in the Premier League, helping the club to two seventh placed finishes.

At 33-years-old, this may be Patricio’s last big move before retiring. And what an underrated career he has had, becoming Mr reliable at both Sporting Lisbon and Wolves before winning Euro 2016 with Portugal. Roma have got themselves a goalkeeper fit for competing for the Champions League places in the Serie A.

Jose Mourinho has some job on his hands when it comes to taking Roma back to their best, but Patricio is a good step to ensuring that task becomes completed.

Mourinho Needs Success at Roma

After unsuccessful spells at Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, Jose Mourinho is in desperate need of success in Italy. His reputation has plummeted in recent years, from a world-class manager to someone whose tactics are incredibly outdated. But perhaps that’s where Italian football can provide him a helping hand. It suits his style of play; the defensive approach has always been popular in Italy, especially for title winning sides.

Of course, the last time Mourinho was in Italy, he won the Scudetto and Champions League with Inter Milan. Now with Roma, perhaps it’s time to see the ex-Chelsea manager lift silverware once more. He’s certainly overdue another trophy.

With Patricio secured, too, he can lay the foundations straight from the backline. The goalkeeper ticks all the necessary boxes. He is experienced, talented and has plenty of leadership to add to that. Whether he and Mourinho will have success in Rome remains to be seen, however. Roma fans will certainly hope for a place back in the Champions League sooner rather than later.
