Shrewsbury Town Confirm Charlie Daniels Signing

Daniels

Shrewsbury Town have officially confirmed the signing of Charlie Daniels until January. The news comes after the left-back was left without a club in the summer following his exit from Bournemouth.

In an unexpected turn of events, the former Premier League man is now set to take League One by storm with Shrewsbury just months after suffering relegation with Bournemouth. Should he perform to his best, Shrewsbury will easily have themselves the acquisition of the summer window.

Unexpected Deal

Following relegation from the Premier League, some players look to stay and fight in the Championship, while others look to make the instant move back to a top-flight club. Charlie Daniels, however, going against the norm, has opted for League One and Shrewsbury Town, dropping down a level in the process.

The 34-year-old, perhaps nearing the end of his career, now has the opportunity to use his Premier League experience to guide his new side towards greater heights in League One. Shrewsbury currently sit as low as 18th in the league having played six games in which they picked up just the six points.

The hope will be that Daniels’ arrival will signal an upturn in form and, therefore, a climb in the standings.

What Was Said?

Speaking to the club website, manager Sam Ricketts was pleased to welcome the former Bournemouth man, saying: “Charlie was at Bournemouth for nearly 10 years and went through the leagues with them. He’s been a model professional and has played at the highest level.

“Last season he was playing in the Premier League. He’s someone we are delighted to have at the club. We are looking forward to working with him.

“He’s ready to get started straight away and will bring valuable experience to the team. When I spoke to him, he was really keen to play for Shrewsbury. He wants to be a part of what we are doing and was very keen to join the club.”
