Sam Morsy

Wigan Midfielder Sam Morsy has completed a move to Middlesbrough. Although boss Neil Warnock will be down in London ahead of the Championship opener tonight, the deal for Morsy has been completed.

Morsy seals Middlesbrough Move

Four Years to Remember at Wigan Athletic

The now-former Wigan midfielder was massive part of the squad for the past 4 years, especially in the season of 19/20, winning the clubs player of the season and putting in some impressive performances despite the clubs relegation due to administration. Last season Morsy appeared 44 times for the Latics, netting three goals from a defensive midfield role.

Middlesbrough, who kick start the championship campaign tonight at Vicarage road, were in pursuit of a gifted defensive midfielder after club servant Adam Clayton departed for Birmingham. Morsy will be up challenging against the likes of Paddy Mcnair and George Saville in the Boro squad, who look to improve on a dismal season last time out.

Wigan continue to struggle to retain players after their controversial relegation to league 1, with Morsy the 21st departure from the DW stadium. Optimism looks very low across Wigan fans with many believing they are in for a tough season ahead with no sign of a quick return. With John Sheridan close to becoming the new boss, he is left with the inevitable task of a major rebuild.

Busy Window So Far

Middlesbrough seems to have battled off competition from Sheffield Wednesday and Brentford to secure Morsy’s signature who preferred a move to the North-East outfit. He becomes Neil Warnock’s third summer signing after recently securing the services of goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli on a season-long loan and defender Grant Hall on a free.

The task will now be to improve upon last season with new players at the helm to ensure that certain targets are reached.
