REPORT: Memphis Depay Agrees Personal Terms With Barcelona

Depay Barcelona

Following an impressive few years in France with Lyon, Memphis Depay looks destined for greater things this summer. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Dutchman has agreed personal terms with Barcelona.

All that’s reportedly left to do now is agree the fee. Both clubs have opened ongoing talks over a potential deal, according to Romano.

Biggest Move Yet for Depay?

Since failing to impress at Manchester United, Memphis Depay has been forced to drag his career from the depths of rejection to convince Europe’s best to once again give him a chance.

The chance is a deserved one, too. The Dutchman finally hit top form once again at Lyon, and, despite coming off the back of a long term injury, looks set to improve even further. Under Ronald Koeman, he should thrive in a similar way to how he did when wearing the famous orange of the Netherlands under the new Barcelona manager.

The pressure will be on, however, as Barcelona look to rebuild and ensure the right transfers are completed this time around. Should he complete a move, Depay must follow in the footsteps of Frenkie De Jong and not Antoine Griezmann by paying back the fee in performances instead of becoming a transfer flop.

Familiar Face for Koeman

Koeman is attempting to stamp his managerial prowess on the Barcelona side. Already, he has targeted and agreed personal terms with Dutchman Depay and has reportedly opened talks with Georginio Wijnaldum’s agent as his contract begins to expire at Liverpool.

Both Depay and Wijnaldum were the standout players for Koeman when taking charge of the national team. He trusts them to do the job asked of them, and they trust him to guide them to victory. That much is clear just from watching the games in which Koeman took charge.

If Depay does complete a move, Barcelona will have a bundle of talent on their hands ready to be unlocked.
