REPORT: Leeds United Target Valencia Striker Rodrigo

Rodrigo

Upon their return to the Premier League, Leeds United are looking to bolster their options in attacking positions. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Whites have set their sights on Valencia striker, Rodrigo.

The Spaniard is valued at £30 million but if Leeds make a sensible offer, they’ll be inclined to take the money. This comes after the Spanish giants missed out on European football for the first time in four years.

Leeds United interested in Rodrigo

Poor domestic season comes at a price

In a season struck with confusion and uncertainty, Valencia finished the season in 9th place. It was the first time they finished outside the top four since the 2016/17 campaign. Missing out on European football means the club could be raided of their talent. With both Francis Coquelin and Dani Parejo heading to Villareal alongside the already departed Ferran Torres to Manchester City, fans will be wary of losing another star.

Valencia have outlined that this pandemic has hit the club hard. As a result, Los Che are needing to cut their wage budget by an enormous 40%. Missing out on Europe was a disaster. European football was and has been a vital revenue stream for Valencia for years.

Rodrigo has been an excellent servant to the club since his arrival from Benfica back in 2015. Yet, with the difficulties Valencia find themselves in, Rodrigo is an asset that Valencia will look to cash in on.

Leeds United continue search for a striker

It is a position that Marcelo Bielsa wants to strengthen for the 2020/21 campaign and is willing to spend to ensure they do sign another striker. Patrick Bamford did have a good season in front of goal last term, scoring 16 goals in the Championship. However, Leeds will want top-flight experience to provide an alternative to the English striker. The Valencia striker’s dynamic and powerful play may also suit the demands of the Premier League.
