Borussia Dortmund have signed Brazilian midfielder Reinier Jesus on two-year loan deal from Real Madrid, the club confirmed earlier today.

After being linked with the club for some time, the Brazilian becomes the German giants’ second forward signing of the summer, following the arrival of Jude Bellingham in July.

The 18-year old attacking midfield could make his debut in Dortmund’s final pre-season friendly against Paderborn on August 28 in place of injured captain Marco Reus.

Reinier Happy With Move

Speaking to the club website, the Brazilian said: “I’m happy that I’m now at BVB. The club is known for its focus on young players and improving them.

“I would like to learn a lot and play a lot here, help the team and be successful. I hope that we’ll experience many happy moments together.”

Meanwhile, Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc revealed that Reinier had been on the club’s radar for a number of years and believes the youngster will be a great addition to the squad in the future.

He said: “Reinier is a player who possesses enormous talent and can be deployed in various attacking positions.

“We’ve been keeping tabs on the lad for over two years. In addition to his outstanding technical qualities, he also boasts a strong physical presence.

“Following the long break from competitive football, we’ll give him the necessary time to adapt to professional football in Germany and he can then be an additional option for us going forward.”

Boy From Brazil

Reinier came through Flamengo’s youth ranks before bursting into the first team in 2019. The youngster scored six goals in 14 appearances to help the Brazilian giants record a domestic double before trading Rio for Madrid in January 2020.

Although the versatile midfielder failed to make an appearance for Zidane’s side, he regularly trained with Real’s first team and scored twice in three appearances for the reserves.

Despite only being 18, the youngster has one goal in six caps for Brazil at U23 level after being called up for the 2020 Olympic Qualifying tournament in Colombia.
