League Two side Leyton Orient are the latest club in the EFL to issue their released and retained list. Four players will be departing East London this summer while a further three will return to their parent clubs following the expiry of their respective loan deals.
Leyton Orient: Released and Retained List
Released
Young goalkeeper Arthur Janata is the first to go. The 20-year-old did not make a professional appearance for the club, instead getting minutes out on loan at Waltham Forest and Bishop’s Stortford during his time.
Dale Gorman, who spent the second half of this season on loan at Newport County, struggled to establish himself in the team after dropping down a division from Stevenage in 2018. The midfielder scored once this season in an EFL Trophy win against Southend United.
Forward James Alabi divided opinion among O’s fans. His lack of goals frustrated many but others saw his presence in the squad as a huge contributing factor not only to the National League title win last season but to the side’s relative success this season too. He spent the second half of this campaign on loan at Ebbsfleet United.
Finally, veteran striker Matt Harrold leaves having scored some crucial goals on Orient’s run to the title last season. All four of his goals in 2018/19 came in the 90th minute or later.
? Big moments call for big players.
All four of Matt Harrold’s league goals in our title winning season came in the 90th minute or later.
Including, of course, this absolutely crucial equaliser against Halifax.

Negotiations Ongoing
Defenders Marvin Ekpiteta and Shadrach Ogie are currently in discussions with the club over new deals.
Thirty-eight-year-old Jobi McAnuff, who has been in a player-coach role since Ross Embleton’s appointment as head coach, is also in discussion over a new deal, as is young striker Ruel Sotiriou, whose hot streak of form over the festive period sees him on five goals – the club’s third top scorer.
Returning to Parent Club
Both George Marsh and Kaziah Sterling will return to Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur. Marsh joined as a midfielder but found success at right-back too following injuries to Sam Ling and Jamie Turley. Sterling departs having not made an appearance.
Ousseynou Cisse will also depart and return to League One side Gillingham.
