Paris Saint-Germain Looking to Complete Icardi Signing

Permanent Move to Paris?

There is no mistake that Mauro Icardi is one of the best pure goal scorers in world football. The 27-year-old Argentine has already put up three seasons of goals over the 20 mark in Serie A alone, no small feat in a such a defensive league. And it is that goal-scoring prowess that could make him PSG’s newest multi-million euro signing.

According to Fabrizio Romano, PSG have begun negotiations with Inter Milan with an opening bid of €50 million + €10 in performance-based add-ons.  According to Romano, PSG’s loan deal for Icardi last season has a €70 million purchase clause due to be paid by the end of this month.

Which brings us to today. Inter Milan are not interested in Icardi returning to Italy at all.  They need the money to balance their spending in the eyes of Financial Fair Play. And with Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez on the books, there isn’t much space for Icardi at all.

This is where the effect of the coronavirus comes in.  While PSG is still easily one of the richest clubs in football, Ligue 1’s cancellation after only 27 games limits their revenue. Which could lead to the agreed-upon price of €70 million too high for Paris St. Germain’s revenue.

Finally, what should bring this deal over the line is PSG’s need to replace their own outgoing striker.  Edinson Cavani, PSG’s all-time leading scorer, is set to leave the club when his contract expires on June 30th.  Which is why Paris St. Germain is looking to complete a deal for Icardi. They are not going to find a better option for what they need.
