As football has been brought to a halt for what seems likely to be a while; Last Word on Football has taken a look at the Leeds United players whose contracts are up for renewal this summer.

The Players Leeds United Could Lose as Free Transfers This Summer

Contracts Expiring

The coronavirus pandemic has brought a sudden halt to Leeds United’s charge to promotion.

The Yorkshire side’s season will not continue until April 30 at the earliest but the suspension could run further into the summer.

Players whose contracts are set to expire at the end of the 2019-20 season will, technically, become free agents on July 1.

There are six Leeds United contracts expire this term, but only two of those are permanent members of the squad.

Ben White, Jack Harrison, Illan Meslier and Jean-Kevin Augustin are all at Elland Road on loan deals.

The latter’s terms of the agreement do mean, however, that his deal would turn permanent should Leeds win promotion.

The Whites gave contract extensions to several players earlier in the season meaning just two of the current squad will be out-of-contract.

Gaetano Berardi

Berardi has found opportunities fairly limited this term but has proved to be useful when called upon.

Often acting as a fall-upon option, the 31-year-old had been used as a replacement for Kalvin Phillips prior to the campaign’s suspension.

The central defender has managed 20 appearances this term – 17 in the Championship.

His form has come in fits and starts this season. The defender only manages a few regular appearances before a game or two as an unused substitute.

Will Huffer

Huffer is another to have found his opportunities limited this season.

The 21-year-old has made more appearances in the National League (2) than the Championship (1) and could be looking elsewhere for more playing time.

A struggle with injury has been the main cause for the ‘keeper’s sudden fall down the pecking order.

He has never really looked likely to be Number 1 at Elland Road. A loan move, therefore, could prove key in allowing him to make a name for himself.
