Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 22 Preview

Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 22 sees the return of Premier League after last week’s FA Cup action. With the January transfer window open, things could get rather tricky indeed this month. Read on for some tips on how to tackle this gameweek and beyond. Don’t forget, a double gameweek is coming very soon (Gameweek 24) for Liverpool and West Ham United. Also, don’t miss the Friday night deadline.

Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 22 Picks

Goalkeepers

Kasper Schmeichel is the highest-scoring goalkeeper on FPL. A home game for Leicester City this week does provide him with a clean sheet opportunity. However, he is up against an in-form Danny Ings so that clean sheet is definitely at risk.

Dean Henderson has a good shout of a clean sheet as well. West Ham seem much improved under their new manager David Moyes, though.

Rui Patricio seems to be the best bet for a clean sheet this gameweek. He only has 10.5% ownership at the moment so could be a good differential.

With their impending double gameweek, Alisson could come into contention as well. The Brazillian has kept five clean sheets in a row. Even with a tough away trip to Tottenham Hotspur this week, he remains a strong pick.

Defenders

Ricardo Pereira, Çaglar Söyüncü, Jonny Evans and Ben Chilwell are all decent options from an in-form Leicester City side. Chilwell enjoyed a monster haul against this week’s opponents in gameweek ten with 19 points. As mentioned previously, Danny Ings could prove to be a thorn to Leicester’s ambitions of a clean sheet this week. Hence, Pereira and Chilwell owners will be hoping for some nice attacking points from them.

John Lundstram and George Baldock are good options from Sheffield United as they host the Hammers.

Matt Doherty should be strongly considered this week as he faces a goal-shy Newcastle United. Wolverhampton Wanderers have not kept a clean sheet in the last six matches though.

Despite the tough fixture, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson can still shine this week. Liverpool are in unbelievable form and they also have a double gameweek coming up.

Djibril Sidibé seems to be doing pretty well off-late for Everton. One should be very careful about trusting the Toffees though. In addition, it is also not advisable to underestimate Brighton who won at Arsenal and also threatened Tottenham away.

Midfielders

Anthony Martial is a fantastic pick this week against Norwich City at home. The Frenchman had a big haul in his last home game against Newcastle United with 15 points. His FPL owners will be ecstatic if he can replicate that this week. From the Canaries, Todd Cantwell is worth consideration as well. Manchester United had a disastrous midweek League Cup fixture against Manchester City which might make their defenders a bit tired, especially coming so soon after the hectic festive period.

Injury-ravaged Aston Villa host Manchester City this week in a match that could turn ugly for the Villans. Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling both started on Tuesday night but with no midweek match coming up, it seems unlikely that they will be rested for this match.

Chelsea have struggled at home this season. They have lost the last two home games against Southampton and Bournemouth. However, a good-looking fixture against struggling Burnley should make FPL managers consider the likes of Mason Mount and Willian.

Richarlison should be a decent pick this week as well. He is always a big threat from Everton.

James Maddison is a great pick from Leicester this week. He scored a fantastic free kick in the return leg earlier in the season.

Sadio Mané won the CAF African Player of the Year award recently and will look to celebrate that with a good performance at Spurs. He edged out his teammate Mohamed Salah for the award who won it the last two times. Will the Egyptian look to outperform his African teammate this week a bit more than normal because of this?

Strikers

Jamie Vardy scored a hattrick against Southampton in that famous 9-0 rout. His FPL owners will be expecting to see him score and celebrate the birth of his new-born daughter.

Marcus Rashford has a fantastic fixture this week and he is one of the standouts picks this week.

Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero were both benched against Manchester United in midweek. Will either of them get a start this week though against Aston Villa?

Tammy Abraham could do well against the clarets. However, he has blanked in the last couple of home games.

Raúl Jiménez, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Troy Deeney are also worth considering.
