RB Leipzig Complete Signing of Ademola Lookman
Career So Far
Everton and RB Leipzig have agreed on a deal after being locked in talks.
The German side are understood to have met Everton’s asking price for the 21-year-old.
Lookman had wanted to join Leipzig on a permanent deal last summer after spending half a season on loan; however, Marcel Brands and Marco Silva both insisted the winger was not for sale and so rejected Leipzig’s offers.
The former Charlton winger has struggled to break into the first team on a regular basis at Goodison Park. The 21-year-old made only three starts in the Premier League last season.
Championship Charlton To Benefit
Charlton Athletic could benefit from an initial £1.3 million windfall following Ademola Lookman’s move to RB Leipzig.
According to the Evening Standard, Charlton are due 15% of any profit on the £7.5 million deal which saw Lookman move to Everton in 2017.
Lookman came through the academy at Charlton and made 49 appearances for the Addicks before moving to the Premier League.
Following in Footsteps to Bundesliga
Lookman’s move to Germany is the latest in a series of English players heading into Europe.
Over the past few seasons, a number of young English players have moved to Germany in the belief of more playing time.
Jadon Sancho has been the headline star in the Bundesliga after his performances at Borussia Dortmund culminated in him breaking into the England team.
Arsenal duo Reiss Nelson and Emile Smith-Rowe were also on loan at Hoffenheim and Leipzig respectively last season.
