This edition of FTN, brought to you by Last Word On Football, looks at the latest news and rumours from the Premier League, including the Tammy Abraham situation and the future of Dominic Solanke at Liverpool.
Latest on Tammy Abraham, Solanke, Young and Cahill
Wolves Chasing Abraham
Nuno Espirito Santo’s Wolves are reportedly looking at a permanent £18 million deal for Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham, who is currently on loan at Championship side Aston Villa.
The Daily Mail report that Wolves are leading the race for the England striker, who has 16 goals for Villa this season, but Huddersfield and Burnley are also said to be interested. The Sun are suggesting that Abraham is keen for his loan to end early so he can pursue a permanent deal. However, Sky Sports say the opposite, with Villa boss Dean Smith insisting that Abraham is happy at Villa and does not want the loan to end.
This one could drag on for a while but, if Abraham is to move on, it looks likely that Wolves will be the destination.
Palace End Solanke Interest
Crystal Palace have cancelled the proposed loan deal for Dominic Solanke from Liverpool due to concerns over his fitness. The England U21 striker has yet to make a league appearance for the Reds this season and was due to move to Palace in order to gain some valuable minutes.
Palace are in the unfortunate position of being the only team in the top four English leagues to not have a striker register a goal this season, so the collapse of this move could blight their chances of securing their Premier League survival if they do not identify another target quickly.
Young Off to Italy?
According to The Mirror, Inter Milan are keen on bringing in Manchester United and England full-back Ashley Young.
Young, part of the England squad that reached the World Cup semi-finals in 2018, has found starts hard to come by after the re-emergence of Luke Shaw and the form of Diogo Dalot.
Young is in the final six months of his United contract, meaning he is free to negotiate deals with clubs from outside of England.
Ranieri Wants Cahill On Loan
Fulham manager Claudio Ranieri is said to want Chelsea centre-back Gary Cahill on loan until the end of the season.
The 33-year-old would add much experience to a leaky Fulham defence, who still find themselves in the Premier League relegation zone having conceded 47 goals, the most in the league.
Arsenal were also rumoured to be after the former England international prior to the transfer window opening, but may be reluctant to make the move after an upturn in form for Sokratis Papastathopulous. Unai Emery has also dismissed claims that discussions about the move for Cahill have been made.
