Scottish winger Aidan Nesbitt has left League Two side MK Dons by mutual consent. The 21-year-old was yet to make a league appearance under new manager Paul Tisdale this season, instead featuring just twice in the Checkatrade Trophy.
Aidan Nesbitt Leaves MK Dons By Mutual Consent
Bright Start
Nesbitt joined the club from Scottish champions Celtic in August 2017 for an undisclosed fee and made his first start in the away fixture with Plymouth Argyle. As debuts go, it was a pretty good one, as he struck the only goal of the game after eight minutes.
He netted again a month later in the 4-4 draw with Oldham, scoring the third to put the Dons within one goal of an equaliser. As well as starting to add goals to his game, Nesbitt was impressing fans with his trickery and direct style of play, always wanting to move forward with the ball.
His bright start to the season was capped by scoring the first goal on the FA Cup first round last season, live on TV as the Dons travelled to non-league side Hyde United. Collecting Alex Gilbey‘s through-ball, he looped an excellent first-time effort over Peter Crook.
Summer Uncertainty
Robbie Neilson was likely a huge factor in Nesbitt joining the club in the first place, so with him sacked by January it was surprising to see his appearances in the team diminish under Dan Micciche.
Once Micciche had moved on too, Nesbitt was nowhere to be seen, and it was suspected that he would be one of the first players to move on in the summer, especially once the arrival of Paul Tisdale as the new boss was confirmed.
Tisdale admitted back in November that the winger was never a part of his plans at the club and he had expected him to leave, which never came about. There was a hint that we could see something of him this season after Tisdale said “he is training really well” but with such a high influx of players in his position, it doesn’t come as a surprise to see Nesbitt move on.
