Kieran Trippier Signs New Contract With Tottenham Hotspur
Kieran Trippier signs a new five-year contract with Tottenham Hotspur, according to the BBC.
Competition
When Trippier first arrived at the club, he was playing the understudy to Kyle Walker. He played occasionally, usually in some domestic cup matches and some European matches. But, at the time he was failing to secure the favour of Pochettino. Nevertheless, he has persisted in his hard work and recently made his full debut for England. His transition resulted in extended playing time at the end of the 2016/7 season. This included his performance against Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final. By the end of the season, he had notched 5 assists, equal to Walker’s record in the Premier League. Whilst many had been underwhelmed by his original arrival back in 2015, Trippier has proven his quality, and is now regarded as an important member of the first team squad.
His key assets include his crossing ability and all around technical ability. Trippier delivers high quality, dangerous crosses whipped into the box at every opportunity. Whilst he lacks in height, he is tenacious in his defensive and offensive manoevres.
Walker may have the edge physically, with his strength and speed, but lacks the same consistency and accuracy of Trippier’s crossing. Nevertheless, his pace and dribbling ability going forward is something that earned him preference over Trippier at the start of the season. Overall, they both have their own unique assets and qualities that allow for fierce competition, but also allow for flexibility in the manager’s tactics.
