Lucknow Super Giants vs Delhi Capitals  Preview and Prediction

IPL So Far

Lucknow Super Giants got their inaugural IPL campaign off to a disappointing start, beaten thanks to some excellent hitting in the death overs by Gujarat Titans’ Ayush Badoni and Rahul Tewatia. But they have bounced back in impressive style with back-to-back victories over Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad. They had to work hard for both victories, but will surely be pleased by the contributions of some of their star men on both sides of the equation.

Delhi Capitals, meanwhile, have had a relatively light workload so far in the IPL having taken to the field just twice so far. The results have been mixed. They made a fine start against the struggling Mumbai Indians, chasing down 177 in just 18.2 overs. But they proved unable to back that up against Gujarat Titans. Batting first, Gujarat scored 177, with Shubman Gill accounting for the bulk of those, before a rampant Lockie Ferguson gutted the Capitals top order to set up a big win for Gujarat Titans.

Expected Teams

Lucknow Super Giants greatest strength is their opening combination of KL Rahul and Quentin de Kock. Evin Lewis has impressed so far, whilst Marcus Stoinis may be available to bat at number four. Deepak Hooda looks increasingly assured in the middle order, whilst Ayush Badoni clearly has a bright IPL future. Krunal Pandya and Jason Holder ensure that Lucknow can bat deep. Ankit Rajpoot, Ravi Bishnoi and Avesh Khan will complete their line-up.

Prithvi Shaw will likely have a new partner at the top of the order in Australian stalwart David Warner. Tim Seifert will drop out of the side to make way for Warner. Mandeep Singh will bat at three, with captain Rishabh Pant at number four. Lalit Yadav will bat at five with hard-hitting West Indies batter  Rovman Powell at six. Axar Patel will bat at seven, with Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Anrich Nortje and Mustafizur Rahman comprising a dangerous looking bowling attack.

Delhi Capitals have made an indifferent start to the season, but if Warner and Nortje are both available that will be a big boost. Warner’s record speaks for itself, whilst Nortje’s pace and accompanying variations make him an asset of rare value. Lucknow Super Giants have some excellent players themselves and the better batting unit all told. But Delhi’s advantage with the ball is probably bigger. Expect that to prove the difference here.
