Gujarat Titans vs Delhi Capitals Preview and Prediction

IPL So Far

Gujarat Titans briefly looked to be in trouble against Lucknow Super Giants. They had conceded to their opponents in the first innings and at what point found themselves four wickets down with just 78 runs on the board. But David Miller and Rahul Tewatia accelerated and put their side into a winning position. The South African picked out KL Rahul in the field, departing in the 18th over, but Abhinav Manohar slammed back-to-back boundaries off Avesh Khan in the final over to all-but end the contest.

Delhi Capitals impressed in their first match of the season. Coming up against a dangerous Mumbai Indians, they restricted their opponents to 177 from their 20 overs on a batting friendly surface, despite Ishan Kishan’s 81* off just 48 balls. Delhi’s openers Prithvi Shaw and Tim Seifert got them off to a brisk start, and though Mandeep Singh, captain Rishabh Pant and Rovman Powell all departed quickly, Lalit Yadav combined Shardul Thakur and Axar Patel to get Delhi across the line comfortably.

Expected Teams

Expect Shubman Gill and Matthew Wade to open for the Gujarat Titans. Both possess excellent timing, making them very hard to rein in when they are on song. Vijay Shankar will bat at three with Manohar coming in earlier at number four. Hardik Pandya, David Miller and Rahul Tewatia will be the other three recognised batters, with all three capable finishers. Rashid Khan, Varun Aaron, Lockie Ferguson and Mohammad Shami make-up a formidable bowling attack.

Prithvi Shaw will open the batting with Tim Seifert. David Warner is not yet available for the Delhi Capitals. Mandeep Singh and Rishabh Pant will bat at three and four. Both will no doubt be looking to improve on their effort in the first match. Rovman Powell also fell for a duck against Mumbai. He will bat at five. Lalit, Axar and Shardul saved Delhi against Mumbai. All can contribute with bat and ball. Kuldeep Yadav, Khaleel Ahmed and South African star Lungi Ngidi will round out the Delhi XI.

Gujarat Titans look a side equipped to reach the playoffs in this year’s IPL. They bat deep and in Pandya have one of the best all-rounders in the tournament. If he continue to bowl a full complement, he will provide Gujarat Titans with vital balance. That’s what allows them to bat Tewatia as deep as seven, where he can be at his most destructive. Delhi Capitals have the quality to win this match, but Gujarat Titans look the likelier side.
